When you translate a Research Paper document, the layout matters as much as the words. Tables, page headers, footnotes, and section breaks all need to survive the trip. Our Aspose.Words pipeline keeps every Run in place — the translated file looks like the original, just in a different language.
What this tool does
Layout preserved, paragraph by paragraph
Every Run inside every paragraph keeps its font, size, color, weight, alignment, and indentation. Tables keep their column widths and merged cells. Headers, footers, footnotes, and embedded images stay exactly where you put them.
Pick your translation engine
Claude Sonnet 4.6 (default) for nuanced legal text, GPT-5.4 for fast English-Spanish, Gemini 3.1 Pro for code-heavy docs, Kimi K2.6 for Chinese, GLM 5.1 for cost-sensitive bulk runs, MiniMax M2.7 for creative tone, DeepSeek V4 Pro for technical writing. Same OOXML-faithful layout, your call.
11 target languages including CJK + RTL
English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Simplified Chinese — plus Traditional Chinese and Arabic / Hebrew / Persian / Urdu (with right-to-left text direction applied automatically).
Terminology glossary lock-in
Upload a CSV with two columns (source, target) and the LLM is force-prompted to render every match exactly as you specified. Critical for legal contracts, medical documents, and brand guidelines where 'liability' must always become '责任' and never '负债'.
Encrypted documents accepted
Password-protected .docx? Type the password once. We open it with the same Aspose.Words engine your law firm already trusts; the document never leaves your account and is auto-deleted after 7 days.
Output to .docx, .pdf, .rtf, .odt, or HTML
Translate once, ship in any container. Translating a contract for counsel? Output PDF. Sending a memo to a client? Output .docx. Need .odt for LibreOffice? Done.
How it works
- 1Drop your .docx, .doc, .rtf, .odt (or any other Word-family format) into the upload area.
- 2Pick a target language and a translation engine. Add a glossary CSV if your document has terminology that must stay consistent.
- 3Click Translate. We extract every paragraph, batch them efficiently, and translate each through your chosen LLM while preserving the original formatting.
- 4Download the translated file. Every Hero promise is verified by badges on the result card — check them against your output.
How OfficeMaster Word Translator compares
vs DeepL Pro ($7.49/month, glossary at $34.49)
Free, with terminology glossary included. Choice of 7 LLMs (DeepL is one engine). Same 100% layout preservation, no monthly cap on document count.
vs Google Translate (Documents)
Same free + unlimited use. We keep tables, fonts, and headers/footers — Google routinely flattens these to plain paragraphs. We don't use your documents to train models. We accept encrypted .docx; Google can't open them.
vs Onlinedoctranslator / Doctranslator
Same free, no signup. We don't proxy through Google/Yandex APIs (they do — your document leaves their server twice). We support encrypted documents and let you pick the AI engine.
vs paid CAT tools (Smartcat, Phrase)
Zero per-seat licence. The terminology glossary that those platforms charge $39+/month for is included free here.
Independent benchmark
Read the methodology and full data at /benchmarks/word-translator-2026 — 50 real contracts and academic papers, layout-fidelity score per tool, model-by-model accuracy comparison. See for yourself.
Privacy you can verify
Your document is uploaded over TLS, processed in our EU/US data centres, and deleted automatically after 7 days. We never use it for training. The translation engine you select is invoked through our LLM Proxy — your file never goes to the model vendor's logs.
Frequently asked questions
How is this free?
We sell OfficeMaster Cowork — a desktop AI agent for Microsoft Office. The free tools demonstrate the engine that powers it. No credit card, no signup, no usage cap on the free side.
Will my .docx really keep all its formatting?
Yes — we use Aspose.Words at the Run level to replace text in place, so every font, size, color, alignment, table cell, header, footer, and image stays exactly where you put it. The result card shows '✓ Layout preserved' as a verifiable badge for your specific file.
Which AI is best for my document?
Claude Sonnet 4.6 is our default and excels at legal/medical text. GPT-5.4 is faster and cheaper for general European-language pairs. Gemini 3.1 Pro shines on technical documents with code snippets. Kimi K2.6 and GLM 5.1 are tuned for Chinese. Try two and compare side-by-side — that's why we let you pick.
How does the terminology glossary work?
Upload a CSV with one term per line, source on the left and target on the right. We inject the glossary into the LLM's system prompt with a 'must use exactly' instruction. Up to 200 entries per document. Toggle 'Apply this glossary' to enable enforcement.
Do you support password-protected documents?
Yes. If your .docx is encrypted with a document-open password, we'll prompt you for it the moment we hit the encryption header. We never brute-force passwords.
What languages do you support?
11 target languages in the picker: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Simplified Chinese. The API also accepts Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu — Arabic and Hebrew get right-to-left direction applied automatically.
What input formats do you accept?
Anything Aspose.Words can load: .docx, .doc, .docm, .dot, .dotx, .dotm, .rtf, .odt, .ott, .txt, .html, .htm, .mhtml, .mht, .xml. Up to 100 MB per document.
What output formats can I save to?
.docx (default), .doc, .rtf, .odt, .pdf, .html, .txt. PDF is convenient for legal documents you want to ship to counsel without round-tripping through Word.
How long does it take?
Most documents under 50 pages translate in 30–90 seconds, depending on the model. Long contracts (200+ pages) take 3–5 minutes. We batch paragraphs into ~3 KB chunks, so the total cost scales linearly with document length.
Is my document private?
Yes. Files are uploaded over TLS, processed in our EU/US data centres, and deleted automatically after 7 days. They're never used to train any AI model. The selected LLM is called through our proxy — your document is not logged by the model vendor.
Can I translate the same document with two different models?
Yes. Translate once with Claude, then with GPT, then compare the two output files. The result card shows which engine produced each file.
What if a paragraph fails to translate?
We build in graceful degradation: if a batch returns malformed JSON or hits an error, the paragraphs in that batch keep their original text and we tell you in the result card. Your file always opens; nothing is lost. Re-running retries only the failed paragraphs.
